Whisky and Slange Var: A Match Made In Heaven...

I’m going to be honest: I find whisky a bit daunting.

Beyond the mask of grandeur, taste is a real minefield for novice whisky drinkers. How do you find one with the right smokiness? How can you avoid those too fiery and intense? What makes a good mixer?

Slange Var has teamed up with Solid Liquids, a team of Edinburgh based drinks experts, to create a range of whisky based cocktails.

They all include our drink, so you can rest assured that they are refreshing and bold in flavour. Try out the recipes below and let us know what you think.

Penicillin with Slange Var Mixer

The penicillin is a true classic. Smooth and smokey, the combination of whisky and honey is subtle but rewarding with a hint of sweetness. Definitely one to enjoy at the bar on a classy night out.

  • 45ml Chivas Regal 12-Year-Old Whisky
  • 50ml Slange Var
  • 10ml Lemon Juice
  • 5ml Honey

Shake all ingredients. Double strain into a rocks glass with cubed ice. Garnish with an orange twist and serve.

Honey Mule with Slange Var Mixer

A more calming take on the Moscow Mule, our honey infused cocktail still has plenty of flavour thanks to the lime juice and ginger beer. The perfect drink to enjoy with a meal.

  • 50ml Blended Scotch Whisky
  • 50ml Slange Var
  • 25ml Honey & Bee Pollen Syrup
  • 15ml Lime Juice
  • Bottle of Fever-Tree Ginger Beer

Build all ingredients into a highball with ice. Top up with ginger beer. Stir, garnish with an orange fan and serve.

Slange Var Hot Toddy

Our version of a hot toddy is ideal for a cold winter’s night by the fire. Increase the quantities used and heat for longer to make a big batch with friends and family.

  • 50ml Chivas Regal 12-Year-Old Whisky
  • 100ml Slange Var
  • Orange Slice with 3 Cloves studded into the surface

Heat Slange Var gently in a pot. Stir in other ingredients until aromatic. Serve in mugs.
